Our Chapter offers several Seminars thoroughout the year. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, May through January from 5:00 to 8:30, in Mission Valley at The Handlery Hotel, 950 Hotel Circle North, San Diego, CA 92108 (619) 298-0511. NOTE: December and January meetings to be held at Crown Plaza, 2270 Hotel Circle North San Diego, CA 92108 (619) 297-1101 The Board meeting begins at 4:00, registration is at 5:00, the speaker begins at 5:30, dinner is at 6:30 and at 7:30 the speaker continues for another hour. Approved CPE certificates are provided. For reservations: call our voice mail at 800-642-1040 or email us by 5:00 pm the Thursday preceeding the meeting. Cost: $30 for members and spouse; $36 for nonmembers and $40 for all late reservations . Pay by credit card.

Seminar - January 11, 2010 -(Monday) '2010 CSEA-IRS Practitioner Seminar': Topics covered: Collection Update, Offers in Compormised, Taxpayer Advocate Service - IRS & FTB, Criminial Investigation, Modernized e-File, California State Appeals Process, California Underground Economy. Registraton at 7:00am. Seminar 8am to 5 pm at California Center for the Arts, 340 N. Escondido Blvd., Escondido. 7 hours of CPE. For registration and additional information see Flyer.

Meeting - January 12, 2010- Annual Ethics meeting speaker will be Claudia Hill, EA speaking on IRC 7216 disclosures and the variety of documents we need to be sure clients sign before we start preparing their returns. 2 hours of CPE. Dinner: Spring Salad; Red Snapper Vera Cruz – Pan seared snapper filet with olives and peppers in a tomato sauce. Served with Spanish rice and market vegetables. Chef’s Choice of Dessert. Seminar - February 1 and 2, 2010-(Monday & Tuesday) 'COD in the Real World '. Lisa Ihm, EA presents this two day hands-on workshop featuring case studies. Each attendee will receive a USB flash drive containing Excel worksheets to simplify calculations. Bring your laptop computer with your tax program installed (not required) and work the cases just like you will in your office this tax season. Registration/check-in each day begins at 7:30am. Seminar 8am to 4:30 pm at National University, 9388 Lightwave Avenue, San Diego, 92123. 16 hours of CPE. Flyer. Early Bird Registration $195 (through 1/11/2010). Regular Registration $250 (after 2/11/2010) As of 1/14/10 the workshop is full and there is a waiting list.

Meeting - May 11, 2010- Topic 1: Negotiating tax debts with the IRS; get all your collections questions answered. Speaker will be Jim Demetriou who was with the Collection Division of the IRS for 16 years. After leaving the IRS, he became an Enrolled Agent and formed a business representing thousands of individuals and businesses before the IRS and State tax collection agencies. His firm represents about 300 active clients (at any given time) who have unfiled tax returns from three to 20 years and unpaid taxes from $20,000 to $3 million. who has over 30 years of experience in IRS Collections, The second speaker is Graham Hoad talking on Sales Tax challenges and audit preparedness. Mr Hoad is a former sales tax auditor with the California State Board of Equalization, and as a Multi-state Tax Consultant with a "Big 4" accounting firm, he was involved in many audits both as an auditor and a consultant. He also created significant tax saving and cash generating strategies for many types of clients. 2 hours of CPE. Dinner: Cherry Tomato Salad; Beef Short Ribs – Hoisin braised short ribs.
